Beautycounter Tint Skin Review

Danielle Bisbano - Sunday, November 16, 2014

I really want to keep this review short and to the point.  I adore words, so this could be hard.  I also really adore this makeup, which makes me not want to shut up.  But here goes.

Tint Skin is Beautycounter’s new, and totally amazing, complexion coverage.  Maybe it’s a tinted moisturizer, maybe it’s a BB cream, maybe it’s a CC cream, maybe it’s a foundation.  I pretty sure I don’t really know and I am positive that I don’t care.  Call it what you want.  I call it brilliant.

This product is the brainchild of Beautycounter’s celebrity makeup artist, and my non-toxic makeup hero, Christy Coleman.  (Here is a link to Beautycounter’s YouTube channel where you can see Christy in action and get some awesome makeup tips!)  Tint Skin was years in the making and all that time has seriously paid off.  Never did I ever imagine loving this product so much but it is literally the best complexion makeup I have ever used.  I am happy that my friends and family and clients have taken my word for it and given it a try because they all feel the same way.  It is just that good.  Your skin actually looks better the longer you have it on.

One of the best things about this product is its versatility.  I thin layer will even out the skin beautifully and then you can apply more to areas that need more coverage.  You will still want to use the (also amazing) Touchup Skin Concealer Pen under your eyes but you really can get away with only using the Tint Skin everywhere else.  Plus the fact that a little goes a LONG way with this stuff.  I still end up squeezing out too much all the time.  It is also a great value at $38.  You are getting 1.35 oz. of product vs. the typical one ounce size for most foundations that also sport a higher price tag.

Beautycounter has launched two brushes to apply this with.  The Retractable Complexion Coverage Brush and the Flat Complexion Brush.  Personally, I have always preferred a flat brush.  However, after trying all of the brushes and sponges in my kit, I have found that for the Tint Skin, using my fingers is actually my favorite way to apply.

If you don't want to take my word for it, read what Self Magazine and Harpers Bazaar have to say about this non-toxic wonder.

Here are the shades, shown on the inside of my arm .  In the cooler months, I am Linen (second from the bottom), but if I have a tan I am Sand (third from bottom) or a mixture of Sand and Linen.

Shades shown above, from top to bottom; Chestnut, Tan, Golden, Honey, Sand, Linen, Porcelain.

Here is a little cheat sheet to help you choose your shade:

Do yourself a favor and try this gem on your beautiful mug.  Your skin will thank you, you will look absolutely flawless and you will be saving yourself from a boatload of nasty chemicals in the other brands you may be using.  It is a no-brainer.  Trust me.

REAL Head Shots (finally!)

Danielle Bisbano - Wednesday, July 17, 2013

It has been a long time coming but I finally made a plan to get some real deal photos done for my website.  As a consumer, I always prefer when I can actually see who I am considering working with.  I figure my clients might feel that way, too!

Liz (hair), Heather (massage) and I (makeup) had so much fun working with Amy at Olivia Greene Photography.  It was brutally hot  and humid out but I must say that everyone's airbrush makeup held up beautifully.  See why everyone wants this stuff?!  You can check out the rest of the images here.

We will be choosing our images from these photos that Amy picked.  Look for updates to my site very soon and let me know what you think!

Lustro Is a Must, Yo

Danielle Bisbano - Thursday, May 09, 2013

I actually believe that if Beautycounter didn’t have a facial oil in their line I would have been like, eh, how smart can they really be?  Don’t they know how amazing facial oils are???  Well, it turns out they are pretty smart.  Not only do they have one, they have three!

I am going to take these one at a time and I want to start with Lustro Face Oil 2, a.k.a. Jasmine.  Wow does this stuff smell heavenly.  For those of you who have never used facial oils, you really don’t know what you are missing.  I have been a huge fan of them for a very long time.  There is a reason for that.  They are awesome.  They work for everyone and they make your skin just glow.  Not glow like shiny and greasy glow.  Glow like nourished and pampered glow.  Your skin just soaks up all the nutrition in the oils and leaves behind one really happy, well-nourished mug.

And for all of you oily skinned and acne-prone people out there (like me!) that are thinking this is not for you.  Not true.  A facial oil is probably one of the best things you can put on your face.  When you use typical acne products you are drying out your skin.  The signal your dried out skin gives your face is to produce more oil.  When you give it the right kind of oil instead, your skin can chill out.

The Lustro Face Oil 2 is great for everyone. Beautycounter recommends it especially for aging skin but even my blemish-prone skin loves it. Sensitive skin is going to adore this stuff, too.  Applying it to your skin is like giving your face a hug.  FYI, your face likes hugs.  Trust me.

Routine Clean Cream Cleanser

Danielle Bisbano - Tuesday, May 07, 2013

So here is my first review about a product in the Beautycounter line.  In the skin care world, at least for me, cleansers are not all that exciting. They perform a function and then you move on to more fun stuff!  I had already drafted an entire article about how, if you are wearing makeup, you really need to “pre-clean” your face before you wash it.  Using some sort of makeup remover or even just an oil to get your makeup off BEFORE you wash your face.  I can’t think of the last time I had a good, NATURAL, cleanser that did both really well.  I had gotten to used to accepting “trade-offs” in order to keep my commitment to using safe products.  Thanks to Beautycounter, those days are over.  You really can have it all!

Surprise, surprise.  Or not.  This cleanser rocks.  You apply it to your whole face and gently massage it all over.  Then you wipe it off with a warm washcloth.  That’s it!  You don’t need to have makeup to remove to appreciate how well this works.  It cleanses and tones in one step.  It removes even stubborn eye makeup easily.  This is probably because of the natural oils in the cleanser.  Oil breaks down oil (and makeup!) so you are going to want to apply this to dry skin.  Massage it in for a minute or so and them gently wipe off with a warm washcloth if you are taking off makeup or just rinse if not.  Your skin will be clean and soft and glowing.  Ready for the more, ahem, fun stuff.

The Best Skin Care Line EVER

Danielle Bisbano - Saturday, April 27, 2013

Can I just say, it has been really hard keeping this a secret!  I found an amazing line of skin care products that I am over the moon about.  Considering that I have been ACTIVELY searching for a truly natural and healthy line that I adore for years, this is a big deal.  I wanted to tell you all about it right away but here’s the deal.  You can’t buy this line in stores.  You have to buy it from a consultant.  It is the ONLY thing I don’t love because I am not a sales kind of gal but the mission of this line is really, really important to me so I had to make a decision.  If this stuff really was as good as it sounded and I knew it would improve the lives of people I care about, I had to at least consider getting involved.  There was no way I could do that unless I was truly ecstatic about the line.  I just can’t fake stuff like that.  I decided to use the line exclusively for one month to see how I liked it.  I had tried it for a few days and loved it but for me, that was not enough time to really know.  Thanks to a generous return policy, I felt comfortable taking a leap of faith.

Needless to say, I am never going back.  Let me tell you a little bit about this amazing skin care line, Beautycounter.  Beautycounter just launched on March 1, 2013.  The mission of this company is simple.  They state it best: “We educate families about the need for safer chemicals and products, and work to bring about much needed change to the beauty industry—and to our lives.”  This really resonates with me and it is what I have been trying to educate people about for a while now.  The chemicals we are taking into our bodies through our skin are a big deal.  They affect us, they hinder our health and they contribute to disease.  There are plenty of natural, more often allegedly natural lines out there but guess what?  They don’t really work.  Sorry, I am picky!

This company came into my life in an unexpected way and I am so glad.  I am completely confident about the safety and effectiveness of these products and that conviction helped me overcome that pesky little obstacle of how to get it to my friends and family.  How can I not tell you all about it?  You are using products every day to cleanse, moisturize and treat your skin, hair and body.  You are buying these products anyway.  I am just here to help you make a better, safer choice for yourself, your family and everyone else you care about.

I can’t stress this enough; these decisions matter and they add up.  By taking control of the choices you make every day, you are helping to give your body a fighting chance in this toxin-filled world we live in.  The fact that these products make you look like a million bucks doesn’t hurt, either.

So, I will be reviewing the products one by one and posting articles so you can learn more about them.  I have a set of the entire line for my local friends who want to borrow it to try it out for a few days.  Prepare to get really, really spoiled.

In the meantime, if you want to learn more about the line, the mission, and the products, you can go to my Beautycounter website: www.healthyskin.beautycounter.com

You can order anything right from that site.  There is a Mother’s Day special on the brand new Glow Sugar Scrub and Lustro Body Oil until May 12.

So, welcome to Beautycounter.  I am so excited to be able to introduce you to this line.  You are absolutely going to love it and I am going to say “I told you so!”

Love the Skin You're In!

Danielle Bisbano - Tuesday, January 31, 2012

You are what you eat.  How long has that phrase been around? A long time.  You know why?  Because it’s true!  The same reasoning goes for what we put on our skin.  Our skin is our largest organ and what we put on it goes directly into our bloodstream minus the benefits and protection of our digestive system.  We really need to be aware of this and cooperate by making sure we are using safe, natural products whenever possible.

Have you ever heard this one:  “Don’t put it on your body unless you can eat it.”  Great advice and a noble venture but it’s not entirely practical for a lot of women.  I like to pick my battles and here is how I do it.

As I started writing this, I realized that there are several factors that I consider every time I make a skin care, body care and/or cosmetics purchase whether I am aware of it or not.  The basic considerations are: surface area, duration and permeability.  Let’s go through them one at a time, shall we?

image

Surface area:  are we comparing a body lotion to a cuticle cream?  Let’s be realistic; it is much more important that what you are slathering over your WHOLE BODY be natural than something that covers three square inches.  I’m no math whiz but this is basic stuff.  This is the reasoning behind why I am more likely to use whatever eye shadow without obsessing but I probably won’t use a “junk” moisturizer on my whole face.

Duration: are we comparing something that you are going to be using every day or only once in a while.  How about how long you will have it on your skin?  Like the difference between a face mask that you wash off in 20 minutes versus a serum that you have on for 16 hours.  To me, it matters.

Permeability: this one is really important to me.  It’s the products that I use in the shower that I am the most discerning about.  When you are in the shower or taking a bath, your pores are open and every square inch of you is getting washed with something (hopefully).  You really want to be careful here with soaps, body washes, shampoo and conditioner.  You’re like a little sponge soaking everything up and when you are taking a bath, it’s like your own private marinade.  Don’t use this opportunity to drown yourself in chemicals!  There are so many other options and they are all easily accessible.  No excuses!

With all of these factors, there is one more to consider.  It is what you do on a daily basis that really matters.  You don’t have to go crazy worrying about every little thing.  It’s all about balance.  On that note, do yourself a favor.  Buy yourself one bottle of natural body wash, shampoo and conditioner and you will give yourself months of chemical-free cleansing.  Want to do one better?  Do the same for a friend.  How easy is that?

Here are just a few products that I have tried and love.  No, I do not work for these people.  I’m just a happy customer.

Savannah Essentials:

Free shipping if you spend $75.  Treat yourself to deliciously scented body washes, soaps, lotions, bath salts and more.  These products are amazing!

John Masters Organics:

Salon quality natural hair and skin care products.  I have not tried the skin care products but I love the shampoos, conditioners and pomades.

Beautycounter:

Okay, I actually DO work for these people now but only because I fell in love with the products first.  The most amazing, clean skin care line I have found.  The results are just phenomenal!

Oh, and tell your skin I said “you’re welcome” ;-)
