Enchanted Metallics Bridal Shoot

Danielle Bisbano - Thursday, November 27, 2014

Talk about an ideal setting for a wedding!  Lush green fields lined with towering pines.  Annuals and perennials that perfectly surround the ceremony area and its beautiful bluestone altar.  The privacy and uniqueness of The Farmer’s Daughter make for the perfect outdoor venue for your special day.  This was the site for my most recent photo shoot, “Enchanted Metallics”, with Made in March photography.

The theme of this shoot was “Enchanted Metallics” and the stunning set design is credited to Jennifer Gee of Gwen Studios.  Using flowers from Greenlion Weddings, Jennifer crafted a gorgeous table display featuring copper from East Coast Tinning and calligraphy from Brown Fox Calligraphy.

Liz and I were brought on board for hair and makeup.  We had some inspiration boards to look over but we were given free reign to create the looks we thought would work for the concept.  Liz chose to construct a beautiful fishtail braid for Mariah and it worked perfectly with her style and dresses.  In keeping with the metallic theme, I wanted to make sure to include some with the makeup.

I chose a coppery eyeshadow for Mariah and balanced it with a sheer wash of color for her lips and cheeks.  I used some of my favorite products for this shoot.  To even out her skin, I used the new Beautycounter Tint Skin Complexion Coverage.  Then, to achieve the flushed cheek I had in mind, I used Beautycounter’s Lip Sheer in Plum as a cream blush and then used it again on her lips.  I topped that off with a light layer of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss in Rhythm Box to add dimension.  The best part of this shoot for me?  Being able to do makeup while sitting on the grass.  I was in heaven.

I always love working with Made in March.  Sarah’s got a killer eye so I know the images will always be on point.

I love my job.

Beautycounter Lip Sheer Review

Danielle Bisbano - Monday, January 20, 2014

I have a confession to make.  I have been almost silent about the first color cosmetic product in the Beautycounter line even though it has been out for months.  Even though I am a makeup artist and even though I love it.  Even though I use it and even though, like everything else in the line, it is amazing.  I have been quiet because, well, it's not cheap.  We all have budgets, I get it.  But then Christy Coleman (Beautycounter's celebrity makeup artist) said that you can also use the Lip Sheers as a blush and I thought, "hmmmmmm".  It took me forever to remember to do it (no idea why) but, oh my, was she right.  Not only can you use it as a blush, it is actually quite fantastic.  It has amazing staying power and beautiful color.  So now that you can multitask with one beautifully packaged, non-toxic, vanilla scented wonder . . .  I'm telling you about it!

A little 411 on these babies.  Six shades in all: Petal, Twig, Coral, Rose, Currant and Plum (in order per the pic above).  Here is the breakdown:

Petal: Beautifully soft, light pink.  Very sheer.  Perfect for non-lipstick wearers or when you want a truly soft wash of natural color.

Twig: Have you spent the better part of your teenage and adult life searching for the perfect nude lip color?  Me, too.  The search is over.  You're welcome.

Coral: Can't really elaborate on the shade all that much . . . "coral" is a perfectly perfect description.

Rose: Deeper pink than Petal. Very romantic and pretty.

Currant: Lovely reddish-brown.  More intense shade.  Classic. Not as red as the picture.

Plum: Beautiful purple-toned red.  Lovely.

These shades were formulated to look good on every skin tone so you just have to pick the one you like the best.  The shades most suited as a blush are Coral, Rose, Currant and Plum.  The darker the shade, the more staying power in general.  In fact, Currant and Plum most definitely have a stain factor to them.  They are also my personal favorites as blushes, Plum being my number one.  I am a big fan of a flushed cheek look and Plum really does the trick.

The texture of the Lip Sheers is kind of hard to describe.  They are their own little enigma.  They are not really a lipstick or a lip balm or a lip stain or a lip gloss.  They are kind of just the best parts of all of those things.  They go on like butter.  Seriously.  They smell like vanilla and feel beautifully soft on your lips.  The packaging makes you feel kinda sorta super special when you put it on, too.  All fancy like.  See???

(Twig pictured here)

Currant and Plum are especially versatile.  One coat will give you a sheer wash of color.  A second coat right on top of that adds intensity and impact.  Top any of these shades off with the Beautycounter Lip Shine ($24) and you will add gloss and a slight shimmer, giving you yet another completely different look.

Locals can borrow one from me if you want to try before you buy!  The Beautycounter Lip Sheers are $28 each.  If you want to get yourself the perfect nude color (Twig), the perfect day to evening color (Plum) and the gloss, try The Quintessential Collection for $75.  Want it all?  The Complete Collection retails for $175.

Now you know!

New Jordana Stain is the Balm

Danielle Bisbano - Sunday, September 15, 2013

The next time you go to Walgreens to stock up on your fave Jordana mascara, you are going to see that they revamped the whole line!  I'll give you the lowdown on the new mascara formulas later. Right now, there are more important things to talk about.  Like their new Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain.  In a word?  Wowza.  These things are amazing.  Part lipstick, part lip balm, part stain and all the best parts!  They go on super smooth and pack quite a punch as a stain.  This is me wearing Cranberry Crush; my favorite shade for fall:

My favorite thing about these little guys is their versatility.  You can apply a full coat for rich, intense color or pat on and blend with your fingertips for a soft wash of color.  Or you can just use it as a stain.  Put it on, wait a minute, wipe it off and top with clear lip balm or gloss.

I don't have a whole lot to complain about with these little miracle crayons.  I will say that not all shades are true to color.  Sweet Pink seems like a soft pink but it goes on just about as bright as Tropical Frenzy.  Terra Crave also wears much redder than the tube looks. I haven't had these long enough to comment on the packaging.  The product twists up and I am not entirely confident about how well the mechanics will hold up but for $2.99 you literally can't lose.

My favorite shades are Nude Chic (a cool-toned neutral with a hint of shimmer), Tropical Craze (a pure hot pink for when you're in the mood for a bright) and Honey Love (a neutral warm brownish-pink). Rock’n’Rouge is also a phenomenal shade of red but you know me and red lipstick.  It takes a miracle to make it out the door with it on.  Oh, yeah, Cranberry Crush is pretty awesome, too.

Here is a picture of MOST of the shades:

Honey Love and Nude Chic are missing because I already gave them away.  I like to share!  Interesting side point; these are paraben-free. At least they are making an effort!  Here is the link to the product page.

So, there you have it.  Off to Walgreens you go . . .

She's the Balm - My Newest Lip Balm Addiction

Danielle Bisbano - Thursday, May 02, 2013

What is a good sign that you really like a product?  How about when you run out of it, you are willing to drive an hour just to get more?  How about when that product is lip balm?  Crazy?  Maybe.  But it is THAT good.

I originally got a tube of MyLipStuff lip balm from Treat Cupcake Bar in Needham.  Red Velvet was the flavor and from the first time I used it I was in love.  I have a multiple  tubes of lip balm near me at all times.  Two in my purse, one on each floor of our condo, one at my desk.  I literally can’t go to bed unless I put some on.  I am not the only person with a lip balm addiction, right?  Right?!?!?!?!?

So the thing with MyLipStuff is that the product is (mostly!) natural and you can pick your flavor.  With over 600 to choose from, they have everything.  Quite literally everything.

I want my brides to have beautifully soft lips.  Lipstick just looks better on lips like that!  I decided to order some of my own as a gift to my brides.  They get their own tube at their trial run and their homework assignment is to use it at least until the wedding!

The thing is, these tubes make awesome wedding favors, too.  You can have them printed with your wedding date and name of the bride and groom and give them to your guests on your wedding day.  How fun is that?  Check out these examples of some awesome labels for wedding days, “save the date”s and bachelorette parties:

I had a blast picking out flavors and even turned coming up with a tag line into a contest on my Facebook page.  There were so many great ideas but ultimately the winner was “She’s the Balm” lip balm.  Thanks, Mike, for playing along!

So far, nobody that I have given a tube to has said I am exaggerating about how great it is!  Survey says … it really IS the balm ;-)
