Enchanted Metallics Bridal Shoot

Danielle Bisbano - Thursday, November 27, 2014

Talk about an ideal setting for a wedding!  Lush green fields lined with towering pines.  Annuals and perennials that perfectly surround the ceremony area and its beautiful bluestone altar.  The privacy and uniqueness of The Farmer’s Daughter make for the perfect outdoor venue for your special day.  This was the site for my most recent photo shoot, “Enchanted Metallics”, with Made in March photography.

The theme of this shoot was “Enchanted Metallics” and the stunning set design is credited to Jennifer Gee of Gwen Studios.  Using flowers from Greenlion Weddings, Jennifer crafted a gorgeous table display featuring copper from East Coast Tinning and calligraphy from Brown Fox Calligraphy.

Liz and I were brought on board for hair and makeup.  We had some inspiration boards to look over but we were given free reign to create the looks we thought would work for the concept.  Liz chose to construct a beautiful fishtail braid for Mariah and it worked perfectly with her style and dresses.  In keeping with the metallic theme, I wanted to make sure to include some with the makeup.

I chose a coppery eyeshadow for Mariah and balanced it with a sheer wash of color for her lips and cheeks.  I used some of my favorite products for this shoot.  To even out her skin, I used the new Beautycounter Tint Skin Complexion Coverage.  Then, to achieve the flushed cheek I had in mind, I used Beautycounter’s Lip Sheer in Plum as a cream blush and then used it again on her lips.  I topped that off with a light layer of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss in Rhythm Box to add dimension.  The best part of this shoot for me?  Being able to do makeup while sitting on the grass.  I was in heaven.

I always love working with Made in March.  Sarah’s got a killer eye so I know the images will always be on point.

I love my job.

Beautycounter Tint Skin Review

Danielle Bisbano - Sunday, November 16, 2014

I really want to keep this review short and to the point.  I adore words, so this could be hard.  I also really adore this makeup, which makes me not want to shut up.  But here goes.

Tint Skin is Beautycounter’s new, and totally amazing, complexion coverage.  Maybe it’s a tinted moisturizer, maybe it’s a BB cream, maybe it’s a CC cream, maybe it’s a foundation.  I pretty sure I don’t really know and I am positive that I don’t care.  Call it what you want.  I call it brilliant.

This product is the brainchild of Beautycounter’s celebrity makeup artist, and my non-toxic makeup hero, Christy Coleman.  (Here is a link to Beautycounter’s YouTube channel where you can see Christy in action and get some awesome makeup tips!)  Tint Skin was years in the making and all that time has seriously paid off.  Never did I ever imagine loving this product so much but it is literally the best complexion makeup I have ever used.  I am happy that my friends and family and clients have taken my word for it and given it a try because they all feel the same way.  It is just that good.  Your skin actually looks better the longer you have it on.

One of the best things about this product is its versatility.  I thin layer will even out the skin beautifully and then you can apply more to areas that need more coverage.  You will still want to use the (also amazing) Touchup Skin Concealer Pen under your eyes but you really can get away with only using the Tint Skin everywhere else.  Plus the fact that a little goes a LONG way with this stuff.  I still end up squeezing out too much all the time.  It is also a great value at $38.  You are getting 1.35 oz. of product vs. the typical one ounce size for most foundations that also sport a higher price tag.

Beautycounter has launched two brushes to apply this with.  The Retractable Complexion Coverage Brush and the Flat Complexion Brush.  Personally, I have always preferred a flat brush.  However, after trying all of the brushes and sponges in my kit, I have found that for the Tint Skin, using my fingers is actually my favorite way to apply.

If you don't want to take my word for it, read what Self Magazine and Harpers Bazaar have to say about this non-toxic wonder.

Here are the shades, shown on the inside of my arm .  In the cooler months, I am Linen (second from the bottom), but if I have a tan I am Sand (third from bottom) or a mixture of Sand and Linen.

Shades shown above, from top to bottom; Chestnut, Tan, Golden, Honey, Sand, Linen, Porcelain.

Here is a little cheat sheet to help you choose your shade:

Do yourself a favor and try this gem on your beautiful mug.  Your skin will thank you, you will look absolutely flawless and you will be saving yourself from a boatload of nasty chemicals in the other brands you may be using.  It is a no-brainer.  Trust me.

Six Products I Cannot Live Without

Danielle Bisbano - Thursday, July 31, 2014

Drawers, cases, plastic bins.  Wicker baskets, Tupperware, glass jars.  Carts, boxes and pouches.  I have makeup everywhere.  And lots of it.  It’s a sickness.  I get it.  I accept it.  I am working on it.  It is hard to resist all the colors and textures.  I am only human after all.

We don’t need to address my skin care product graveyard just yet, either, smarty pants.

With all these choices, there is probably something to be said for the products I keep coming back to time after time.  The staples of my kit.  The things I buy in multiples and often give away just to share the joy.  I figured you might want to know about them so here goes . . .

Beautycounter Every Night PM Hydrating Cream (a.k.a. the best facial moisturizer ever)

image

This was the first product that turned me onto Beautycounter.  I had been actively searching for the perfect moisturizer for my kit.  I needed something that wasn’t “active” so it wouldn’t irritate sensitive skin.  It needed to absorb completely without leaving any residue and it needed to play well with makeup.  This product does it all.  The difference in the softness of your skin after even just one use is remarkable.  For really dry skin, you can literally apply layer after layer and it will completely absorb and soak in until the skin is soft and supple.  It has worked wonders with rosacea and eczema and is gentle enough even for really sensitive skin.  It works great mixed with foundation to create a hydrating, fresh look that is perfect for summer.  Although this is technically a night cream, both the day and night creams are interchangeable.  Every Night PM Hydrating Cream retails for $44

 Beautycounter Countertime Vibrant Eye Perfector

Same deal here.  Long list of “must do”s for my kit.  The most important of which is that it fully absorb.  You can’t apply eye makeup to greasy skin.  This one is perfect.  It absorbs completely and leaves the eye area refreshed and ready for the next step.  This product retails for $55.

Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation Illuminator

image

Koh Gen Do does highlighting right.  Such a subtle, soft shimmer.  Nothing too shiny or sparkly.  Less than one pump will subtly highlight the high points of your face.  Dab under or over makeup and gently blend.  I love this under airbrush foundation.  If you want to feel like a goddess, mix a few pumps of this with your body lotion for a barely there, all over shimmer.  This also comes in a golden tan shade.  This product retails for $39.

 MAC Lip Pencil in Subculture

image

This is the most amazing nude shade ever.  I use this on almost every single person in my chair.  It is the perfect blend of pink and light brown and it goes well with pretty much every lipstick or as a base for a layer of gloss.  The texture is perfect; not too moist, not too dry.  I can’t live without it.  This product retails for $15.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze

image

I got this when I did makeup for a RISD fashion show a few years ago.  Maybelline was one of the sponsors and in addition to getting actually getting paid (!) each makeup artist got to take the entire line home with them.  I shared most of those products with some appreciative friends but these babies stayed in my kit.  This particular color is another one that flatters almost everyone.  Sometimes I just use it as a base for darker shadows due to its staying power but it is awesome on its own, too.  This is a cream shadow that you can apply with your fingers or a synthetic brush.  Ironically, you can also blend and buff it out with a fluffy brush.  Apply one layer for a soft wash of color or add additional layers for intensity.  It is a very versatile product at about $7.

Jordana Squeeze’n’Shine Super Shiny Tasty Lip Gloss in Honey Luau

image

Wow, that name is a mouthful and kind of makes me feel like a 12-year old for using it but I am telling you it is a cheap little wonder!  This gloss is a golden beige with shimmer and it smells like vanilla.  The color is so pretty and it looks amazing over everything.  Extra bonus for it being $1.99.  I like it better than my $25 gloss that is the same shade and half the size.  The only place to get Jordana is online or at Walgreens.

Well, there they are.  Six of my all-time faves.  I hope a few of them will make it into your rotation.
